8th and 9th graders will be taking the pre-Act on Tuesday, October 14th, and the 10th grade will take it on Wednesday. Tuesday's tests will begin at 9. Please make sure students are well rested and ready to go. This not only helps provide data to understand how students are progressing toward the ACT, but it will help us with decisions in instruction throughout the year. Thank you for

Congratulations to our 3rd/4th-grade boys on winning the Wister Basketball Tournament today. They won the championship game 14-7! Maverick Chestnut was named the tournament MVP!
Our FCCLA students traveled today to Carl Albert to attend the district leadership conference. Grace Ann Johnson was going to be singing the opening national anthem. Great job Grace Ann!
We are adding a 5th/6th grade game against Trinity this Thursday, October 9th. That game will start at 5PM and it will be followed by the JH game at 6PM. Those games will be played at Hunt's Park in Ft. Smith.

It is important to share good things happening at Arkoma Middle School. We have had some amazing work from students lately, especially in the realm of science. In one picture, you will see Mr. Wells's 7th grade science class exploring the acidity and alkalinity of different kinds of beverages using test strips. In the other two pictures, you will note 8th grade students from Mrs. Riechmann's science classes. They won the contest in their respective classes for creating "Newton" cars. Students were given specific parameters to utilize given materials to create propelled cars. As our students participate in hands-on learning using project-based and group learning, they are excelling in their studies of STEM disciplines. We are excited to educate the engineers and scientists of tomorrow!

At the conclusion of school Friday, September 26th, a note that originated in the middle school was turned over to administration with a concerning statement inscribed at the top and specific students' names listed. The matter was immediately turned over to Arkoma police department. After an investigation was conducted, the school was informed that the note was not deemed a threat. It is considered there is no threat stemming from this letter as Monday morning arrives. As always, we will be watching with vigilance to ensure student safety. If your child was involved in this incident and you would like further information, please feel free to contact Arkoma police department.
